Meta Ads

Meta Ads pulls your Facebook and Instagram ad spend into DayZero every day, by ad account, campaign, and day, so you can compare what Meta says it billed with the card charges in your books. It is a reporting view only: connecting it never creates journal entries or changes your ledger.

Key capabilities

  • Sign in with Meta once; DayZero asks for read-only access to your ads
  • Every ad account that Meta login can see is listed, each with an on/off checkbox for syncing
  • Last 30 days spend total per currency, with the number of campaign-days pulled and the date the history starts
  • A table of spend, impressions, and clicks per ad account, plus your Top campaigns
  • Automatic daily pull, Sync now for an immediate pull, and Full backfill to reload all history
  • Settings for the daily pull, the re-pull window, and how much history new accounts load
  • Warning when Meta access is about to expire, and a Reconnect Meta Ads button when it has
  • Ask Regent questions such as "how much did we spend on Meta ads last month"

How it works

Meta ad spend is stored separately from your accounting. Card charges for ads still arrive through your bank or card feed (for example Integrations for Plaid or Ramp) and are categorized as usual. Meta Ads gives you the other side of the comparison: what Meta reports it billed.

How to use it

  1. Open Integrations, find Meta Ads (under Advertising, or search for "Facebook"), and open it.
  2. Click Connect Meta Ads and sign in with the Meta account that can see your ad accounts. You return to DayZero and the first pull starts automatically.
  3. Under Ad accounts, tick the accounts you want to sync. Click Refresh list if an account you expect is missing, and check that the Meta user has access to it in Meta Business Settings.
  4. Click Configure on the card to change the schedule: Pull spend automatically every day, Re-pull window (3, 7, 14, or 28 days), and History for new accounts (30 days, 90 days, 180 days, 1 year, or 2 years). Click Save settings.
  5. Review the spend summary, then compare it with the matching card charges in Transactions.
  6. To disconnect, click Disconnect and confirm. Pulled spend and the ad account list are removed from DayZero; card charges already in your books are not affected.

Pro tips

  • Meta revises a day's figures for several days after the fact, so keep a re-pull window of at least 7 days.
  • Meta access lasts about 60 days and cannot be renewed in the background. When the card shows "Meta access expires in N days", click Reconnect now to avoid a gap.
  • Reconnecting keeps your ad accounts, settings, and all spend already pulled.
  • Use Full backfill after changing History for new accounts or after enabling an account whose history you want loaded.
  • Untick accounts you do not need; they are skipped on every pull.

In-depth guide

Who can do what

Anyone with access to the business can see the spend summary. Connecting, changing settings, enabling accounts, syncing, and disconnecting require an admin of the business. Advisory firms can also share Meta Ads with clients; see Client Integrations.

Reading the numbers

  • Spend is shown in each ad account's own currency and is never added across currencies, so a business with several currencies sees one total per currency.
  • Meta reports what it billed for the ads, not the card charge. Timing and fees can differ, so small gaps are normal; large gaps are worth investigating.
  • Each ad account shows a status (Active, Disabled, Unsettled, Closed, or Needs attention), how far its history has been pulled ("through" a date, or "not pulled yet"), and any error from its last pull.

Daily schedule

When automatic pulling is on, spend is refreshed every morning (06:30 UTC). With it off, only Sync now and Full backfill pull data. Large pulls run in the background with a progress bar on the card, and the card updates when they finish.

Troubleshooting

  • "Meta Ads needs to be reconnected": Meta no longer accepts the saved sign-in. Click Reconnect Meta Ads. Sync now and Full backfill stay disabled until you do.
  • "Meta returned no ad accounts": the Meta user who connected cannot see any ad accounts. Fix access in Meta Business Settings, then Refresh list.
  • "Meta Ads is not available for demo businesses": demo businesses cannot connect.
  • "Meta Ads is not configured on this server yet": contact DayZero support.
