Supply Chain Map

The Supply Chain tab shows how stock and money move through your network: which purchase orders are open, which shipments are on the road, and what each location holds. Use it as the one-screen status check before you dig into Purchase Orders or Transfers.

Key capabilities

  • Pipeline view: summary cards, alert chips, and a board of every open order by stage
  • Map view: one card per location, with lines for open purchase orders and in-transit transfers
  • Summary cards for Pipeline Value, In Transit, Ready to Ship, and In Stock
  • Per-location on-hand value, a low-stock count badge, and an open PO count
  • Group the map by Flow stage (raw materials through distribution) or by Location type
  • Edit map to assign each location a flow stage and a friendlier display label
  • An Inventory activity feed beside the board, with Shopify-sourced events tagged
  • Available when the business's Inventory Mode is set to CPG

How it works

The map reads the locations, purchase orders, and transfers you already have. A purchase order is drawn from its ship-from location to its ship-to location; if either is blank, it uses the vendor's default location and your default location. Received, completed, and canceled POs are left off, and a transfer only appears once it is in transit.

How to use it

  1. Open Supply Chain from the Inventory sidebar. If you do not see it, the business is not in CPG mode (see Pro tips).
  2. Stay on Pipeline for a status check. Read the alert chips ("N orders ready to ship", "N shipments in transit") and the four summary cards.
  3. Scan the board. Each open order or in-transit transfer is a row, with a status chip under Submitted, In production, Ready, In transit, or On hand.
  4. Switch to Map to see where things are. Dashed lines are open purchase orders; solid lines are transfers in transit.
  5. Use Group by to arrange columns by Flow stage or Location type. A legend below the map explains the colors.
  6. Click Edit map, pick a flow stage and an optional display label for each location, then click Save map. Reset appears once you have customized the map.
  7. Check the Inventory activity feed for recent stock movements; Shopify-driven events carry a Shopify tag.

Pro tips

  • Inventory Mode is a per-business setting (Finished goods or CPG) managed in Business Management. Switch it to CPG to show this tab, Production & BOMs, and Landed COGS.
  • Pipeline Value is the total of every open purchase order. In Stock counts only warehouse locations, so supplier and store stock is not included.
  • Your Edit map choices only change this picture. They do not change location types, stock, or reports, and they are saved in your own browser, so teammates will not see them.
  • A numbered badge on a location card means that many items there are at or below their reorder point. Fix it from Locations & Transfers or the Overview Dashboard reorder suggestions.
  • Missing lines? Add ship-from and ship-to locations on the purchase order, or set a default location on the vendor.

In-depth guide

Reading the pipeline board

Rows are open purchase orders and in-transit transfers. A PO row shows its number (or name) and total. The chip appears in the column that matches its current status, so a row sitting under Submitted has not started production yet. A draft PO is listed too but has no stage chip until it is submitted. Finished work drops off the board. Open Purchase Orders to change a status; shipping a PO creates the in-transit transfer you then see on the board.

What the location cards show

Item Meaning
Name and place The location name, with city and state, or its type if no address is set
On hand Units times unit cost for everything stocked there
Warning badge How many items are at or below their reorder point
Open POs Open purchase orders that ship from or to this location

Flow stages

By default each location type maps to a stage: suppliers and manufacturers to Raw materials, co-packers to Intermediate goods, packaging sites to Packaging, warehouses to Finished goods, and stores or drop-ship sites to Distribution. Anything else lands in Other. Edit map lets you override this, for example to place a co-packer that also stores finished product under Finished goods.

Empty states

With no locations, the tab says "No locations yet" and asks you to add a warehouse, store, or vendor location. With no open orders, the board says "No active orders in the pipeline". To build out your network, see Locations & Transfers.

Plan note

Inventory pages need the Commerce & Inventory add-on. This tab also needs the business to be in CPG mode.
