Order to Cash Overview
The Overview is the landing page of the Order to Cash workspace. It shows how your whole book of contracts is doing in one screen: how much is contracted, how much you have billed and earned, what is still deferred, and which contracts need attention.
Key capabilities
- Six summary tiles: Contracts, Active, Total contract value, Billed to date, Earned (recognized), and Deferred revenue
- Alerts that flag up to six contracts worth a look (see below); click one to open that contract
- Contracts by status bars showing how many contracts sit in each lifecycle status
- Portfolio billing progress bars for billed and earned as a share of total value, with the deferred balance underneath
- Cash-inflow forecast for the next 13 weeks, shown as weekly columns with a total
- Contract value by type bars splitting your contracted value by billing rule
- Export reports panel with one-click CSV downloads of the five Order to Cash reports
- A searchable, sortable contract table with Contract, Customer, Project, Status, Value, Billed, Earned, Deferred, and Hours rem. columns
How it works
The Overview is a read-only summary of work done in the other sections of the workspace. Nothing here changes a contract; clicking a row or alert takes you to the contract itself.

deal["Pipeline deal"] --> order["Order"]
order --> contract["Contract"]
contract --> invoice["Invoice Review"]
invoice --> cash["Collections"]
contract --> overview["Overview"]The three alerts are simple rules applied to each contract:
- Over-billed: billed amount is above the contract's current value. Reconcile before billing more.
- Hours nearly depleted: 10% or less of a prepaid hour block remains. Time to send a reorder or a change order.
- Billed but low earned: less than half of what was billed has been earned so far, often because prepaid revenue is still deferred.
How to use it
- Open Overview from the Order to Cash workspace.
- Read the summary tiles first. Billed to date and Earned (recognized) show a percentage of total contract value with the dollar amount underneath.
- Check Alerts. Click an alert, or View all, to jump to the affected contract in Contracts.
- Look at Cash-inflow forecast to see which weeks bring the most billing. Click Billing schedule on that card to download the detailed schedule.
- Search the contract table by contract number, customer, project, or status. Click a row to open its drill-down drawer.
- Use Export reports to download a report as CSV. For Excel files, use Order to Cash Reports.
Pro tips
- Treat the Overview as your Monday check: clear every alert before you approve the next batch of invoices.
- The forecast counts billings that are still to come, from live contracts. Paused and completed contracts are left out, and so are periods that already have a drafted or sent invoice.
- The forecast follows your invoice cadence, so change it in Order to Cash Settings if weekly timing looks off.
- A low Earned percentage is not an error on prepaid deals. It simply means the revenue is still waiting to be recognized as hours burn or the schedule releases.
- If you have a very large number of contracts, the table shows the first portion and says so; use search or the reports for the full list.
In-depth guide
Deferred revenue. The Deferred tile and the progress card describe the same number: billed but not yet earned. Compare it with the deferred revenue account on your balance sheet at close. The Revenue Schedules article explains how it releases.
What counts as Active. The Active tile counts contracts that are awaiting their first invoice, billing, or drawing down. Paused and completed contracts are in the total but not in the active count. The status bars show the exact split.
Where to go next. Deals that are not yet orders live in Pipeline & Deals. Orders become contracts through Sales Orders; the contracts themselves are covered in Customer Contracts. Overdue balances are chased from Collections (Order to Cash).
